Buckeyes win again over top-ranked Tigers

FOR THE second week in a row, Gilmer Buckeye fans saw their undersized Black Flag Defense continue to mature at an improbable pace, as defense set the tone for the Buckeyes’ 39-18 upset of the previously undefeated Class 2A No. 1-ranked Daingerfield Tigers at Mickey Mayne Tiger Stadium in Daingerfield.

Buckeyes and Leopards renew rivalry here Friday

THE 1-2 Gilmer Buckeyes will end a 3-game home stand at Buckeye Stadium Friday night against the 3-0 Liberty-Eylau Leopards that they hope will also end an uncharacteristic 2-game losing streak at home.

The Liberty-Eylau – Gilmer high school football game on Friday, Sept. 17 will be showcased as the “DQ Big Game of the Week” on FOX Sports Southwest’s HIGH SCHOOL SCOREBOARD LIVE show (Friday, Sept. 17, midnight CT, replayed Saturday, Sept. 18, 9:00 AM CT).

Jacksonville outlasts Buckeyes 43-36 in offensive shootout

FOR THE second week in a row, playing before a partisan home crowd at Buckeye Stadium, the Gilmer Buckeyes fought valiantly against a much larger, stronger team, but fell a touchdown short to the Jacksonville Indians. The loss drops the Bucks to 1-2 on the young season. The Indians move to 2-1 with the win.

Buckeyes look to bounce back against Jacksonville

“I’VE HAD better days,” Coach Jeff Traylor said Sunday after his Gilmer Buckeyes had lost a hard-fought game to the Tatum Eagles two nights before. The 47-41 offensive slugfest marked the first time Gilmer had lost at Buckeye Stadium since 2002 and ended a 34-game home winning streak.

After fast start in Tyler, Buckeyes return home to face Tatum

THE GILMER BUCKEYES gathered in the middle of the field after their first scrimmage in Whitehouse on a mid-August Saturday morning to hear Coach Jeff Traylor mostly praise them for their performance.

He had one complaint, though: not enough “big plays” on offense.

He told them it was harder to call plays for long drives and that whenever anyone got the ball “in space,” he wanted that player to “take it to the house.”

Thursday night in Tyler, in a 63-28 win over the Atlanta Rabbits that was not as close as the score indicates, the Buckeyes became “space travelers.”
