THE GILMER BUCKEYES are now the fifth Gilmer team since 2003 to get off to a 12-0 start. Two of the previous four won state championships. These Buckeyes, in spite of and also no doubt because of the adversity they have experienced, very much want to become the third GHS team to get championship rings.

MOST TEAMS who play the Gilmer Buckeyes come to realize pretty quickly that they are not just facing 11 players out on the football field. They must also contend with one of the loudest, most passionate and, especially come playoff time, best-traveling fan bases around.

Gilmer vs. Van - Game Information

Tickets for the Class 3A Division II Area Round game between The Gilmer Buckeyes and The Van Vandals will be available beginning Tuesday, November 15th at 8:00 a.m. at the GISD administration building at 500 S Trinity Street. Tickets will be available through Thursday, November 17th. All tickets, both student and adult, will be $5.00 and all tickets at the gate will $7.00. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 Friday, November 18th at Lobo Stadium in Longview. The Buckeyes will be the “visiting” team.

THE GILMER BUCKEYES successfully opened the 2011 postseason playoff campaign with a convincing 48-14 victory over the Atlanta Rabbits Friday night at Lobo Stadium in Longview, moving their season record to 11-0. Atlanta ends their season at 5-6, and now heads to play round ball.

Rematch with Rabbits on agenda for Buckeyes Friday night in Longview

THE GILMER BUCKEYES began the season in Atlanta on Thursday night, Aug. 25. They came away with a 42-21 win over the Atlanta Rabbits, but many observers of that game noted how improved the Rabbits were and are not surprised they have earned a rematch.

TRAY WEBB was one of the key players for the Buckeyes in the victory over Henderson last week. He blocked a field goal and made a couple of huge catches on fourth down as well.

SOME TEAMS “rest their starters” once they clinch playoff berths.

The Gilmer Buckeyes got in the playoffs for the 11th consecutive year last Friday night with a 35-20 win over the Henderson Lions here and also laid claim to the District 16-3A championship, their 10th in the last 11 seasons.

However, the Gilmer Buckeyes can’t afford to take the foot off the accelerator, according to Coach Jeff Traylor
