Read more:  The Gilmer Mirror - Buckeyes qualify for State The Gilmer Buckeyes 7on7 team defeated Alto, Mount Vernon and Chapel Hill in pool play and then won a semifinal round game against Mabank. The winner of the other semifinal game was White Oak. Buckeyes make good showing at Nike Football Festival

by  ELWYN HENDERSON elwynh@juno.com * The Gilmer Buckeye 7on7 team had their most impressive outing last Saturday since winning the Gilmer Tournament on May 18. Read more:  The Gilmer Mirror - Buckeyes make good showing at prestigious Nike event  The Gilmer Buckeyes went 2-2-1 Saturday at the Nike Football Festival in McKinney in games against Throckmorton (tie), Denton (win), Frisco Lone Star (loss), Euless Trinity (win) and Arlington (loss). Buckeyes to compete in 2013 Nike Football Festival in McKinney on Saturday, June 8

Saturday 9:00am until 3:30pm Pool A of the Nike Football Festival will include three newcomers to the event: Gilmer (2012 State Runner-Up), Frisco Lone Star and Throckmorton (2012 State Champions!), as well as Denton. http://craigranchtexas.com/map/ Man Up and Show Up! 24 of the top schools across the Lone Star State will come together to compete in a variety of skills, including 7on7 as well as Quarterback, Kicking, Lineman and Hands-On Challenges, and a 40-Yard Dash to determine the fastest QB, Lineman and Skills Player at the event. An overall Team Champion will be awarded based on success in each of the various competitions. Buckeyes will have one more chance to qualify for state after coming up short at Bullard SQT

by  ELWYN HENDERSON elwynh@juno.com The Gilmer Buckeye 7on7 varsity went into the Bullard State Qualifying Tournament last Saturday hoping to finish in the top two teams out of eight entrants and punch their ticket to the State 7on7 Tournament in Leander next month. Unfortunately, that didn’t happen, as Gilmer went 1-2 in Pool Play and finished their day early. They will have one final chance to qualify at the Gilmer SQT on Saturday, June 15.
