Gilmer wins scrimmage with Greenville

The Gilmer Buckeyes won, 4-1, in the controlled portion of Friday night's scrimmage with the Greenville Lions at Buckeye Stadium.

In the two quarters played under game conditions, the Buckeyes prevailed, 14-0.

As you have probably all heard, tonight’s scrimmage in New Boston has been cancelled due to a terrible tragedy in that community.

Please keep that community and team in your prayers.

A replacement scrimmage has been scheduled with Greenville for TOMORROW IN GILMER.

9/JV will begin at 6 p.m. and Varsity will follow at 7 to 7:15 p.m.

Gilmer Buckeyes Head Coach Jeff Traylor, who has established the winningest football program in the state of Texas in Class 3A over the course of his 13 seasons here, told Gilmer Rotarians at their weekly meeting at the Gilmer Civic Center Tuesday that team loyalty is one of the keys to his program’s success.

GILMER — The last time Gilmer lined up across from another opponent the Buckeyes were playing for a state title. The stakes were considerably lower Friday night at Buckeye Stadium, but that didn’t stop Gilmer from executing at a high level.

Buckeyes scrimmage Whitehouse here this evening

The Gilmer Buckeyes and the Whitehouse Wildcats will get started at no later than 5:30 p.m. at Buckeye Stadium. Varsity may begin as early as 6:30 or as late as 7, so get there early to see all the teams in action.

Whitehouse is ranked No. 6 in 4A and Gilmer is ranked No. 3 in 3A, according to the Associated Press Preseason High School Football Poll released yesterday.
