From The Gilmer Mirror: THE OVERACHIEVING 2010 GILMER BUCKEYES met a foe in the third round of the Class 3A Division II playoffs in Ennis Saturday afternoon that they couldn’t tame. The Bucks fought hard, as they have all season, and never gave up, but undefeated Argyle proved to be the better team and garnered a 41-14 victory. Gilmer Buckeyes are underdogs against undefeated Argyle

GO BACK in time to Friday night, Sept. 10. The Gilmer Buckeyes aka the Gap Soldiers were viewed as having more “gaps” than “soldiers” after losing their second consecutive game at home 43-36 to the Jacksonville Indians, which marked the first back-to-back losses at Buckeye Stadium since 1996. Since that night, though, with the exception of a 38-21 loss on the road to the Carthage Bulldogs on Oct. 15, the orange-and-black soldiers have won every battle and closed quite a few gaps to do so. Gilmer vs. Argyle Playoff Game Info

The Gilmer Buckeyes (9-3) will play the Argyle Eagles (12-0) at Lion Memorial Stadium in Ennis on Saturday, Nov. 27. Kickoff is set for 2 p.m. Gilmer is the visiting team and will wear white. Advance tickets are on sale TODAY and TOMORROW only at the Gilmer ISD Administration Building at 500 S. Trinity in Gilmer. They are $5 for adults and $3 for children. Tickets at the gate will be $7. In addition, there will be a $3 parking fee. A "Fan Bus" is being chartered for the game in Ennis this Saturday. For information to obtain seating, call 903-841-7400. View Larger Map

From The Gilmer Mirror: THE GILMER BUCKEYES move on to the third round of the Class 3A Division II playoffs Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m. in Ennis, taking on the undefeated 12-0 Argyle Eagles, following a 50-27 blasting of the Van Vandals at Trinity Mother Frances Rose Stadium in Tyler Saturday afternoon. Argyle was a big winner against Prosper last Friday night. Gilmer lost the coin toss after the game and will be the visitors and will be dressed in their white uniforms for Saturday’s game. FOUR YEARS AGO a battle-tested 7-3 football team which was runner-up in its East Texas Class 3A district won a bi-district game over an arguably coasting team which had cruised undefeated to a district title. Most people who live in Gilmer, Texas consider it a privilege. If they weren’t born and raised here, we natives figure you probably had no control over that, so we’re willing to overlook it…but we will make the assumption that any good sense would’ve gotten you here as quick as you could.
