Demarco Boyd's 12-yard run for first down yardage on 4th and 1 from his own 49 during Gilmer's final possession allowed the Bux to run out the clock and preserve the 50-45 victory. It was Coach Matt Turner's debut as head coach. The Buckeyes extended their streaks - 17 wins in a row, 20 wins at home in a row and 14 season opening wins in a row. The Gilmer Buckeyes travel to R.E. St. John Memorial Stadium in Kilgore to take on the Kilgore Bulldogs in both teams' second and final scrimmage before the 2015 regular season begins. This is only the "live" part of the scrimmage simulating two quarters of game action. A controlled scrimmage preceded this.    (Update: This will be viewable again after the season is over.)

Buckeyes compete in adidas Texas 7v7 Championships

The Gilmer Buckeyes traveled to College Station on Wednesday to compete in Division II of the adidas Texas 7v7 Championships. On Thursday, the Buckeyes played three games in Pool L. They won their first two games over Bandera (47-21) and West (48-47) before losing to Snyder (33-32) in the final game of pool play. Snyder and Gilmer advanced out of that pool to the Championship bracket. Friday morning, Houston Worthing eliminated the Buckeyes in a first round game, 39-28. Gilmer Buckeyes win 16th annual Azalea Orthopedics 7 on 7 Tournament held at Buckeye Stadium

The Gilmer Buckeyes, who will be defending state champions of 4A Division II when they take the field this fall, defeated the Liberty-Eylau Leopards, 31-21, in the championship round of the 16th annual Azalea Orthopedics 7 on 7 Tournament held here Saturday, May 9. The Gilmer Buckeyes’ varsity 7-on-7 team won the tournament on Saturday with an impressive 6-0 record. The Buckeyes were joined by Daingerfield, Elysian Fields, Grace Community, Hallsville, Liberty-Eylau, Lindale, Longview, Sulphur Springs, T.K. Gorman and Waskom. Coach Matt Turner emphasizes continuity in talk to Rotarians COACH MATT TURNER Gilmer Buckeyes new head football coach Matt Turner told the Gilmer Rotary Club on Tuesday there will be no changes in the football program’s philosophy in the wake of the team winning its third state championship in the last 11 seasons. Turner, the team’s offensive coordinator last year, was an assistant coach to immediate past head Coach Jeff Traylor for the past 12 seasons. The school board recently named Turner, 56, as head coach after Traylor resigned early this year to become an assistant football coach at the University of Texas at Austin.
