Coach Alan Metzel and Coach Stump Godfrey led the Gilmer Buckeye Captains Wednesday afternoon on a “Pass It On” Window Visit Rally to Wesley House in Gilmer. The Buckeye football program wanted to thank these vital members of our community for their support during this COVID pandemic 2020 season. As many of these resident soldiers in the Army of Buckeyes have been unable to get out due to potential COVID exposure, the Buckeyes decided to bring the pep rally to them! Signs waved, good wishes exchanged and hearts connected through the closed windows, but the enthusiasm was abundant for both residents and players alike who were fired up to support their team. Wesley House residents will watch the Buckeyes play live on www.NFHSnetwork.com as their playoff run continues.
KLTV Red Zone was on hand to document the visit, as Coach Metzel and Coach Godfrey want to let other teams still playing in the East Texas Area know that some of their own elderly fan bases who have been isolated all over the country due to COVID might enjoy seeing them in person. The Red Zone will be doing a feature on Sunday’s Show to spread the word of encouragement to other teams and communities to “Pass It On” in appreciation for their support!
