Gilmer is the 2023 & 2024 Texas 4A State Champion in Track & Field. In 2024 The Buckeyes  won the 4x100 meters relay with a 4A state record time of 40.56 and won the 4x200 meters  relay with a time of 1:24.71. Two current members of the Buckeyes football team, Trillyon  Butler and Mycah Easley were members of both relay teams. Current Buckeyes offensive  lineman Lucas Cano placed second in the discus and receiver/defensive back Brendan Webb  participated in the high jump  

Gilmer has had 6 former players play in the NFL; including two active NFL players, Kris Boyd  (Houston Texans) and Blake Lynch (Seattle Seahawks) who starred on the Buckeyes 2014 state  championship team

The nutlike seed, found abundantly on shrubs here in East Texas, first got its notoriety as a curative agent from the Greco-Roman culture. Their god of medicine was Aesculapian.
