ETSN.fm Class 4A Poll: Gilmer Jumps Up To No. 1 Following Defeat Of Liberty-Eylau

In the much-anticipated season-opening matchup between Liberty-Eylau and Gilmer, the preseason Nos. 1 and 2 teams in the ETSN.fm East Texas Class 4A poll, it was the Buckeyes who came out on top.

The Gilmer Buckeyes outlasted a very athletic Liberty-Eylau Leopards team at Jeff Traylor Stadium in Gilmer to kick off the 2015 Texas high school football season.


Demarco Boyd's 12-yard run for first down yardage on 4th and 1 from his own 49 during Gilmer's final possession allowed the Bux to run out the clock and preserve the 50-45 victory.

It was Coach Matt Turner's debut as head coach. The Buckeyes extended their streaks - 17 wins in a row, 20 wins at home in a row and 14 season opening wins in a row.

Gilmer hosts Pine Tree in its next game on Friday, Sept. 4.

The Gilmer Buckeyes travel to R.E. St. John Memorial Stadium in Kilgore to take on the Kilgore Bulldogs in both teams' second and final scrimmage before the 2015 regular season begins. This is only the "live" part of the scrimmage simulating two quarters of game action. A controlled scrimmage preceded this.  (Update: This will be viewable again after the season is over.)

Gilmer had no issues whatsoever in District 5-4A Division II last season en route to winning the Class 4A Division II state championship and becoming the second-highest scoring team in state history.
