Interview with Coach Jeff Traylor as he leaves Gilmer to coach for the Texas Longhorns

On Friday the University of Texas announced that Gilmer head football coach and athletic director Jeff Traylor has accepted a coaching position with the Longhorns. Traylor will start his new job on Monday, February 16.

Gilmer Coach Jeff Traylor Will Accept Texas Assistant Job

It looks like one of East Texas’ most successful football coaches is headed to the Forty Acres.

Reports from the Austin American-Statesman and OrangeBloods say Gilmer head coach Jeff Traylor will accept the special teams/tight ends coaching position at The University of Texas.

If you were to put together a Mount Rushmore of East Texas high school football coaches, you’d have your four right there. And Traylor might be the first one sculpted.

With the news surfacing that Gilmer coach Jeff Traylor will become the new special teams and tight ends coach at The University of Texas, you can’t help but look back at his 15-year tenure with the Buckeyes and shake your head in amazement.

The 2014 4A Division II State Champions are sending seven players to the next level. Present at this ceremony (the school they're going to is in parentheses after each name) were Kris Boyd (University of Texas), Chase Tate (Texas A&M-Commerce), McLane Carter (University of the Incarnate Word), Dakota Williamson (East Central [Okla.] University, Nick Smith (Houston Baptist University) and Quinn Fluellen (Trinity Valley Community College). Blake Lynch (Baylor) is already on campus in Waco.

The Gilmer Buckeyes of Gilmer High School are honored for their latest football championship in downtown Gilmer on Monday night, Jan. 26, 2015. The Buckeyes went 16-0 in 2014 to win the 4A Division II State Championship.
