From the Longview News-Journal: Buckeyes win battle of No. 1s From the Tyler Morning Telegraph: Gilmer Drills Daingerfield Tigers From CoachesAid: Gilmer beats Daingerfield in battle of No. 1s From KLTV's The Red Zone : From KETKnbc: Gilmer Still The One From MaxPreps: Box Score: Daingerfield @ Gilmer From The Gilmer Mirror : By JOE DODD The Gilmer Buckeyes used a balanced offense and a stingy defense to defeat the Daingerfield Tigers 43-20 Friday night, in a game featuring the top-ranked teams in Class 2A and 3A. The Buckeyes, the top-ranked team in Class 3A, improved their record to 5-0 and extended their home winning streak to 32 games. The Tigers, Class 2A’s top-ranked team, fell to 4-1 on the season and saw their own winning streak end at 15 games. Gilmer’s offense picked up 216 yards through the air and 215 yards on the ground on an even 32 passes and 32 rushes. Gilmer’s defense allowed Daingerfield a first-drive touchdown and then shut the door on the Tigers’ scoring until t

Matt Camp — 1971-2009

Watch 'Jesus Calms The Storm' - Sermon Preached by Matt Camp in August 2009 ******** Because God first loved Matt , Matt loved God. And Matt loved people. We always felt his love for us. If you were ever in Matt Camp's presence, you felt the love. We don't understand right now why he has been taken from us. Our thoughts and prayers are with his grieving family. May God's love surround them. May His "peace that passeth all understanding" envelope them. Brother Matt Camp went to be with his Lord at about 10 this morning, for we know that "to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord." We see through a glass darkly , but Matt now sees the Lord face to face. We will all "in the wink of an eye" experience what he has. May we all be as ready on that day as Matt was on this one. His eternal spirit has now transcended his mortal body, which fought the good fight of faith and finished the course through this troubled world. He has

Gilmer and Daingerfield meet in battle of unbeaten number ones

By JOE DODD It’s not every day that two teams ranked number one in the state of Texas meet on the football field. But it will happen Friday night at Buckeye Stadium when the 4-0 Gilmer Buckeyes, ranked number one in Class 3A, will host the 4-0 Daingerfield Tigers, ranked number one in Class 2A. While this will be the first time the two teams will meet with such lofty rankings, it will be the 54th meeting between the two powerhouse programs that boast a total of nine state championship game appearances between them. The Tigers enjoy a 30-23 advantage in the series, but the Buckeyes boast a current 4-game winning streak. Gilmer head coach Jeff Traylor has met the Tigers 10 times in his first 9 seasons, going 7-3. That makes the Tigers the only team to beat a Traylor-coached team more than once. “It has to be a rivalry. I don’t know who else would be our rival if it wasn’t them,” replied Traylor when asked to describe the series. Tigers coach Barry Bowman agreed. “Sure it’s a rivalry. I t

Gilmer 70, Kilgore 27

I know Gilmer is No. 1 in Class 3A, but Kilgore should never get beat by this much, especially to a 3A squad. Darian Godfrey was 21-of-24 for 360 yards and three touchdowns, while also rushing for two touchdowns, to lead the Buckeyes to the big win. Gilmer returns home to host Kilgore

By JOE DODD After five long weeks on the road, the Gilmer Buckeyes return to the friendly confines of Buckeye Stadium Friday night for a homecoming game against the Kilgore Bulldogs. With scrimmages in Atlanta and New Boston, and non-district games at Nacogdoches, Tyler and Texarkana, the number one ranked Buckeyes (3-0) return to Gilmer to defend their 30-game home winning streak. Kilgore is a major threat to end that streak, just like the Buckeyes’ 27-game regular season winning streak that the Bulldogs stopped with their 28-14 win over the Buckeyes in Kilgore last season. But history is on Gilmer’s side, as the Buckeyes have never lost two games in a row to the same opponent since head coach Jeff Traylor took over the program. “They could stop both our home winning streak and our streak of never losing to the same team twice,” said Traylor. “They’ll be tough to beat.” The Bulldogs have been tough to beat ever since head coach Mike Vallery arrived in Kilgore in 1995. Since then, the

Friday night in Texarkana, the Buckeyes proved they have been listening as Gilmer overcame a 17-9 third-quarter deficit to beat the Liberty-Eylau Leopards 35-17. “It was a struggle.

Buckeyes will be tested on trip to Liberty-Eylau

From The Gilmer Mirror : By JOE DODD Gilmer Buckeyes head coach Jeff Traylor is so concerned about his team’s schedule the next three weeks; he hasn’t had time to consider a career milestone that is approaching. One more win for the Buckeyes’ boss will give Traylor 100 career victories as a head coach. “I haven’t thought about it to be honest with you,” confessed Traylor. “I’m so worried about Liberty-Eylau I can’t even think about it. I would hate to be sitting on 99 for the next three weeks.” Traylor’s concerns are valid. The Buckeyes travel to Liberty-Eylau this Friday, before coming home to host Kilgore and Daingerfield. Those three teams have combined for three of Gilmer’s six losses the past four seasons. Of those three losses, the one that hurt the most was a 39-36 loss to Liberty-Eylau in the first round of the 2006 playoffs. “I was extremely disappointed after the Liberty-Eylau loss because I didn’t think we played very well,” said Traylor. The Buckeyes gained a measure of rev

Buckeyes looking for improvement against Rains

From The Gilmer Mirror : By JOE DODD Following Gilmer’s 42-14 victory over the Jasper Bulldogs last Friday night, Buckeyes’ head coach Jeff Traylor promised his players a hard week of practice in hopes of improving his team’s lackluster offensive performance in the first half. Unfortunately for the Rains Wildcats, the Buckeyes’ opponent in Thursday night’s Trinity Mother Frances Football Classic, Gilmer is determined to correct their mistakes. “You always have to take the opponent into consideration some,” said Traylor, about the underdog Wildcats. “But we’re always going to worry about us, especially because we didn’t play real well. There will be a tremendous emphasis on small things and execution no matter who we were playing this week.” Who the Buckeyes are playing this week is a team that lost 43-0 last week to Mount Vernon. The same team that Gilmer destroyed 77-21 last season. Despite those lopsided scores, Rains head coach Brannon Kidd is happy to be playing the Buckeyes. “We’r
