Buckeyes edge Bears in 'instant classic' by JOE DODD

Seldom do big games live up to their pre-game hype. Friday's big game between the Gilmer Buckeyes and long time rival Gladewater Bears exceeded expectations, as the Buckeyes stole a victory from the jaws of defeat with a last seconds touchdown to defeat the Bears 41-35 in the third round of the 4A Division II playoffs.

Battle of 'G' Towns set for Friday night at Lobo Stadium in Longview


In February, when Gilmer head coach Jeff Traylor was scheduling teams for the 2014 and 2015 seasons, he was surprised when Gladewater, which already had a full schedule, declined to schedule the Buckeyes for a home and home, non-district series of games. The long time rivals had met 58 times including every season since 1980.

"We both thought there was a really good chance we'd play each other in the playoffs," said Traylor at the time …

Buckeyes face Waco Connally Friday night in Mesquite by JOE DODD When the Gilmer Buckeyes take the field Friday night at E.H. Hanby Stadium in Mesquite to face the Waco Connally Cadets, it should be a case of déjà' vu for Gilmer head coach Jeff Traylor, who was a member of the 1985 Buckeyes' team that defeated the Cadets in the second round of the playoffs at Hanby Stadium.

Gilmer High School Football Players to be Selected for U.S. Army All-American Bowl

TWO GILMER BUCKEYES, Kris Boyd and Blake Lynch, were selected to play in the U.S. Army All-American Bowl at the Alamodome in San Antonio on Jan. 3, 2015. Pictured at the announcement ceremony are, from left, Sfc. Devon Perrymon, Boyd, Gilmer Athletic Director Jeff Traylor, Lynch and SSg. William Franks of the U.S. Army. Athletic Director Traylor said after missing the previous two bowl games where Buckeyes performed, he has no conflict this time and looks forward to attending. The ceremony began with Gilmer High School Principal Greg Watson welcoming those in attendance.

The 2015 U.S. Army All-American Bowl Selection Tour will visit Gilmer High School on Friday, Nov. 14 to select two football players for the 2015 U.S. Army All-American Bowl.

Map and Directions to Bobcat Stadium in Hallsville

The Gilmer Buckeyes (10-0) will play the Texarkana Pleasant Grove Hawks (6-4) on Friday night, Nov. 14, at Bobcat Stadium in Hallsville. Gilmer is the home team. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m.

The Buckeyes are the champions of District 5-4A Division II. The Hawks are the fourth place finisher in District 6-4A Division II.

Tickets will be on sale from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday at the Gilmer ISD Administration Building. They are $5 for adults and $3 for students. All tickets at the gate will be $7.

The winner of this game will face the winner of the Madisonville-Waco Connally game being played in Corsicana Friday night.

KRIS BOYD avoids a tackler during Gilmer's 63-27 win over Rains. The Gilmer Buckeyes finished the regular season with a 63-27 win over the Rains Wildcats last Friday night in Emory. In the process, the Buckeyes captured their 12th undefeated district championship and seventh perfect regular season in head coach Jeff Traylor's 15 seasons in Gilmer.

Tickets for the football game against Rains at Wildcat Stadium in Emory will be available at the GISD Administration Building on Trinity Street through Thursday from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day. Adult tickets are $5 and student tickets are $3. All tickets at the gate will be $7.

Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 7.
