Buckeyes' Traylor discusses 2010 season

THERE IS NO DOUBT that Gilmer Buckeye Head Coach and Athletic Director Jeff Traylor faces one of the biggest challenges of his Gilmer High School career with the onset of the 2010 season just around the corner. Thirty-one seniors were lost to graduation from last year’s 15-0 Class 3A Division I State Championship team. Only a couple of players with solid varsity experience return on offense, while only four or five with similar Friday night experience return on defense. Thanks to Joe Dodd, who will require three people to replace

Joe Dodd, who has spent the past five seasons as the beat writer covering the Gilmer Buckeyes for The Gilmer Mirror, has informed us that he has “too much on his plate” in his professional life these days to continue in that role. It is impossible for a single person to replace Joe. So The Mirror will be relying on three people to try to fill in the gaps, so to speak, for him. Elwyn Henderson will cover the games, W.R. Greene will preview the games and Mary L. Kirby will continue to photograph the games and may also be called upon to contribute articles, as well, as she already has been doing during the off-season.

Buckeyes mostly dominant in final scrimmage

“Whenever I look up and see the Buckeyes behind on the scoreboard, I am not pleased,” Athletic Director Jeff Traylor told The Mirror after the Thursday scrimmage here. Gilmer trailed New Boston 14-3 in the game conditions segment. Read more: The Gilmer Mirror - Buckeyes mostly dominant in final scrimmage

'Meet the Buckeyes' this evening

“Meet the Buckeyes” at Buckeye Stadium beginning at 7 p.m. will climax a busy day for many of the returning Gilmer High students. Football players will get Buckeye cards at noon, followed by team photos in the afternoon. Funds from the sale of the cards are used to purchase items selected by the players to supplement their program. Following the National Anthem, the Buckeye Stars Officers will perform and the varsity and junior varisty cheerleaders will lead the audience in the fight song. After the Buckeye Band plays and the majorettes perform, introductions will begin with the coaches of the girls teams. The volleyball team, the boys coaches, the football teams, and the cross country teams will all precede the dance by the varsity cheerleaders. Athletic Director Jeff Traylor will then introduce the varsity seniors before concluding with the “Army of Buckeyes” school song. Immediately following the program, football parents (7-12 grades) will meet in the field house and the volleyball
